Astronomy in the Rudolphine period
Abstract: During Kryštof Harants lifetime, astronomy was undergoing a transformation which modified the overall concept of the universe and of natural science in general. That is why astronomy attracted not only the attention of experts, but also of the general public including noblemen, who were motivated to support science either by genuine scientific interest or by an effort to present themselves in a good light. It is generally acknowledged that the work of Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler in Bohemia exercised a profound influence on the history of astronomy. Other personalities whose activities and contacts helped shape that interesting era are also mentioned.
Key words: early modern astronomy, heliocentrism, harmony of spheres
